HONOR AND DUTY: The Chinese American WWII Veterans - Panel Discussion

Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association San Diego and Asian Business Association San Diego are proud to host a virtual panel for the book release of HONOR AND DUTY: The Chinese American WWII Veterans, for the San Diego community.

This virtual panel will feature author E. Samantha Cheng and speakers, Fang A. Wong, and Frank R. Shirer.

Fang A. Wong was born in Canton, China and immigrated to the United States in November 1960 at the age of twelve. He has been a naturalized citizen since January 1963. In addition to his Vietnam service he also served tours of duty in Germany, Korea, and several stateside military bases. He retired from the Army in May 1989 was elected as The American Legion National Commander from 2011-2012.

Frank R. Shirer completed 20 years of active enlisted and commissioned service in the U.S. Army, serving in field artillery and military intelligence assignments, retiring as a captain. He was employed as a historian for the US Army Center of Military History for 22 years. As the Center’s chief archivist he was branch chief of the Historical Resources Branch, which consisted of the Center of Military History archive and library, for his last 14 years before retirement.

E. Samantha Cheng is an experienced journalist and documentarian. Cheng is the Co-Founder of Heritage Series, LLC, a company that specializes in educational programs about U.S. ethnic minorities and their contribution to U.S. history. She is author and publisher of HONOR AND DUTY: The Chinese American WWII Veterans, the subject of today’s panel discussion.
