2017 Asian American Leadership Delegation

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

 

Purpose

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will sponsor ten Asian American leaders from throughout the U.S. to travel to Japan on the 4th Asian American Leadership Delegation.  This program aims to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations through deepening participants knowledge of Japans history, culture, and contemporary society and helping Japanese leaders better understand the Asian American experience.  

 

Itinerary

  • 7 nights, 8 days

  • Sept. 4 (Mon.)  Sept. 18 (Mon.), 2017 OR Oct. 2 (Mon.)  Oct. 16 (Mon.), 2017

(*These are the four weeks under consideration at this time; candidates must indicate availability in application)

  • Itinerary (to be confirmed)

    • Briefing at Ministry of Foreign Affairs

    • Visit to the U.S. Embassy

    • Meetings with various ministries, parliamentarians, opinion leaders, business executives

Topics:

      • U.S.-Japan relations, U.S.-Japan security treaty, Asian geopolitics

      • Japans key strategies: Abenomics, security, womens empowerment

    • Opportunities to learn about:

      • High level technologies

      • Traditional culture

      • Cool Japan culture

o   Visit to regional areas

 

Candidates

  • Approximate target age: late 30s  50s (candidates with extraordinary qualifications will be considered even if they fall outside of the age range)

  • Leaders in their respective fields and communities with the ability to engage and communicate on a national and international level 

  • 10 participants from throughout the U.S.

  • Those who have not participated in a similar invitational program in the past
