To Be An Influential Leader Just Add Water

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Citizens Water Academy is an exciting program that educates current and future leaders in San Diego County about water issues in our region. They recently completed the summer class and are currently recruiting candidates for the fall 2016 class.

Participants will visit key water facilities and learn firsthand from several members of the Water Authority’s leadership team about critical water issues affecting our region. Activities, discussions, and thought-provoking material will cover the following topics: water history; supply diversification strategies; supply planning; and facilities planning, construction, protection and operations.

There are two evening classroom sessions (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) on August 31 and September 8, 2016, and one daytime session on (approximately 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) facility tour and graduation luncheon on Saturday, September 17.

Community leaders can fill out the application form here by Wednesday, August 10. Applications will go through a competitive evaluation process before participants are selected.   If you are not able to apply for the fall class, but know of someone who might be a good fit, please complete the nomination form here by Friday, August 5.

The program helps increase awareness of the historic, current and future efforts by the Water Authority and its member agencies to provide a safe and reliable water supply for San Diego County. Through the Citizens Water Academy, the Water Authority is creating a diverse network of individuals from across the region who are knowledgeable about key water issues and regional programs and strategies, and who are willing to help expand that knowledge by serving as outreach ambassadors and by referring/nominating others to future academy classes.

You can read more about the academy and view photos from previous classes here: www.sdcwa.org/citizens-water-academy.

Due to high demand, the selection process is competitive and acceptance is not guaranteed.
