Assemblymember Brian Maienschein Honors Asian Business Association's Wendy Urushima-Conn as "Woman of the Year" Honoree Dedicated to Supporting San Diego Women and Businesses
SAN DIEGO - Assemblymember Brian Maienschein, San Diego, honored Wendy Urushima-Conn as the 2014 Woman of the Year for the 77th Assembly District during the Asian Business Association of San Diego's Spring Mixer last night. Wendy currently serves as the President and CEO of the association.
"One of the best parts of being an Assemblymember is being able to recognize outstanding individuals such as Wendy who have done so much for our community," said Maienschein. "Her remarkable career of serving San Diegans - whether working as a traffic reporter, supporting victims of domestic violence or helping small businesses thrive - illustrates her commitment to making San Diego a better place to live.
As President and CEO of the Asian Business Association of San Diego, Wendy provides a leading voice for the region's Asian and Pacific Islander community. She previously served as the Associate Executive Director of Development for the Center for Community Solutions, which helps more than 11,000 adults and children each year heal from the scars of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Before joining the Center, Wendy worked for more than a decade as the Community and Media Marketing Manager at KGTV/10 News. She has also worked as a weather and traffic reporter for Airwatch Traffic. She is married with two daughters and resides in the community of Rancho Bernardo.
"I am humbled and honored to receive such a prestigious recognition from Assemblymember Maienschein. I am fortunate to have met so many inspiring folks in the community who have made my life richer just by knowing them. I accept this award on their behalf," said Wendy Urushima-Conn.
The Woman of the Year honor is part of the State Assembly's efforts to celebrate California's extraordinary women. Started in 1987 to help commemorate Women's History Month, the honor has become an annual tradition to salute community service. Honorees are presented with a framed certificate from the State Assembly recognizing their outstanding contributions.
